The braid is the heart of it. Dordoni took his reference from harbor ropes, and the family name repeats the Italian word for the post boats are tied to. He asked for braiding tight enough to carry a person yet loose enough for air to pass. On the lounge pieces, that braid wraps the aluminum frame and supports the cushions, so each sofa looks light from the side and, in his words, like a cozy nest once occupied.

The 2018 range has five pieces. There is a two seater sofa, a three seater sofa upholstered in fabric, a garden chair with armrests, an upholstered armchair with armrests and a garden bed on castors. The Kettal Bitta Lounge chair is the easiest way into the family, a single seat with arms that can stand beside a sofa or hold its own on a balcony.

Kettal describes the newer version as gently rounded and proportioned for small spaces, suited to both homes and public areas. That makes it a practical choice for a city terrace or a hotel balcony where a long modular sofa would crowd the floor. The garden bed rolls on castors, so it can follow the sun across a pool deck in the afternoon and go back under cover at night.

Outdoors, the pairing of materials is sensible. Aluminum stands up to salt air without corrosion, and braided polyester lets rain drain away rather than soak in, so the seat under the cushions dries quickly.
