Kettal Village stackable aluminum chairs around a round table, aluminum outdoor furniture by Jasper Morrison

Kettal Village is aluminum outdoor furniture by Jasper Morrison, reduced to one stackable chair and three tables. Morrison meant it for any outdoor setting, from the yard of a village house to the terrace of a busy cafe. The tables come round, square and rectangular, and every piece is made in aluminum.

the stacking cafe chair, revisited

Metal stacking chairs have lined cafe terraces for a very long time, and Morrison made no attempt to replace that type. He kept its familiar codes and adjusted the details, so the Kettal Village chair looks right at first sight without looking dated. The form is deliberately neutral. It takes nothing away from a view, a planting scheme or the building behind it.

Light weight is the whole point of a stacking chair, and aluminum delivers it: one person can carry a few chairs to a new spot, set them out for guests and stack them again at night. Rain and salt air leave the metal without rust, so the chairs can stay out along the coast. Stacked, they take up little floor space in a shed or garage over the winter months.

Three table shapes cover most layouts. A round table suits a small balcony or a pair of chairs in a corner of the garden. The square table gathers a group on a compact footprint, and the rectangular one lines up a longer meal along a deck. Because chair and tables share one material and the same plain lines, they read as a matched set.

Village also answers a working need for restaurants, hotels and cafes that clear their terraces every evening. At home it makes a quiet dining set that leaves the attention on the table and the people around it. Within Kettal patio furniture it is a family of few parts, and the pieces listed here are all aluminum, so there is no wood to oil each spring.
